ROMANS - Principles of the gospel
CALL TO WORSHIP
Ascribe to the LORD, you heavenly beings, ascribe to the LORD glory and strength. Ascribe to the LORD the glory due to his name; worship the LORD in the splendour of his holiness.
The voice of the LORD is powerful; the voice of the LORD is full of majesty. In his temple all cry, ‘Glory!’ The LORD is enthroned as King for ever.

CONFESSION AND ASSURANCE
We've just sung that Jesus is to be highly exalted, that he is the name above every other name. Yet so often we fail to love him as we should. God has lavishly poured his grace onto us in Christ and instead of thanking him, we turn our attention elsewhere. We treasure so many other things above Jesus and neglect to spend time with the one who has given us everything. Every week at Redeemer we take a moment to reflect and confess to God the sin we see in our own heart. It's a chance to come humble before him and admit our weakness. So take a moment to confess to God now the ways you see this in your own heart.
God does not treat us as our sin deserves. The truth of the Gospel is that Jesus took the wrath that our sin deserved so that we could know forgiveness and relationship with God. It is only by grace that we're saved and because of God's grace we can know him intimately.

PREACHING OF THE WORD
This week we started our sermon series in the book of Romans. Gary Aston preached to us from Romans 1:1-7. Click here to listen to that sermon.
COMMUNION
Every week we want to respond to what God has done for us in Jesus. One of the great ways he has provided for us to remember the truth of the gospel is giving us communion. As we take the bread and wine we remember what Jesus has done for us.
POST COMMUNION READING
Jesus’ death brings us life and this meal reminds us that we are fed by Jesus and forgiven because of Jesus.
We rejoice that You have died, rose again, and are now with the Father advocating for us. Amen.
With our money, time, and talent we give generously, knowing that through Your Son, Jesus, You have generously given to us.
We rejoice that You have given everything and we joyfully give everything back to Your care. Amen.

COMMITMENT READING
Because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions.
God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus, in order that in the coming ages he might show the incomparable riches of his grace, expressed in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus.
It is by his grace we have been saved. This is not our own doing; it is the gift of God!
