Prepare (November 27, 2016)

This blog gives you a glimpse into the upcoming Sunday Gathering. It's an opportunity to read through the passage we'll be studying together, pray through some of the liturgy we'll be using, and listen to a selection of the songs we’ll be singing.

REDEEMER VISION - Servants

SERMON

Gary Aston will challenging us to think through our identity as servants of Christ this week, taking us to Matthew 5:38-42 to help us.

LITURGY

CALL TO WORSHIP

Praise the Lord, my soul. I will praise the Lord all my life; I will sing praise to my God as long as I live.

He is the Maker of heaven and earth, the sea, and everything in them he remains faithful for ever. He upholds the cause of the oppressed and gives food to the hungry.

The Lord sets prisoners free, the Lord gives sight to the blind, the Lord lifts up those who are bowed down, the Lord loves the righteous.

The Lord watches over the foreigner and sustains the fatherless and the widow, but he frustrates the ways of the wicked.

The Lord reigns for ever, for all generations. Praise the Lord.

(Based on Psalm 146)

MUSIC

  • Jesus (Citizens and Saints): A glorious celebration of the Saviour we gather to worship, his majesty, power and dominion over all things.

  • 10,000 Reasons (Matt Redman): A song reminding us of the endless reasons we have to praise and glorify our God.

Reflect (July 17, 2016)

Welcome to the recap (songs, hymns, liturgy and sermon) from Sunday’s gathering. This blog is designed to give you an opportunity to reflect on what you heard in the gathering or catch up if you weren’t able to be with us.

*The indented sections are responses read aloud by the congregation during the Gathering.

SERVE THE CITY

CALL TO WORSHIP

The Lord is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and rich in love.

The Lord is good to all; he has compassion on all he has made.

The Lord is trustworthy in all he promises and faithful in all he does.

The Lord upholds all who fall and lifts up all who are bowed down.

The Lord is righteous in all his ways and faithful in all he does.

The Lord is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth.                               (Based on Psalm 145:9-18)

CONFESSION AND ASSURANCE

We've already heard that our God is a compassionate and trustworthy, he is the giver of good gifts, yet so often we are ungrateful for his gifts and use them for selfish gain. We are selfish creatures, selfish with our time, money, resources and yet God has been generous towards us. Take a moment to confess to God ways in which you can be selfish with the gifts God has given you. To reflect on his generosity shown to us in Christ. Jesus himself tells us:

For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.
(Mark 10:45)

God has been generous to us in giving his son to free us, to save us from our sin and what better way to respond than to be generous ourselves to those God has placed around us

PASSING OF THE PEACE

PREACHING OF THE WORD

This week Gary Aston preached from Mark 10:35-45 on what Jesus tells us about service.

COMMUNION

Every week we want to respond to what God has done for us in Jesus. One of the great ways he has provided for us to remember the truth of the gospel is giving us communion. As we take the bread and the wine we remember what Jesus has done for us.

POST COMMUNION READING

Jesus’ death brings us life and this meal reminds us that we are fed by Jesus and forgiven because of Jesus.

We rejoice that You have died, rose again, and are now with the Father advocating for us. Amen.

With our money, time, and talent we give generously, knowing that through Your Son, Jesus, You have generously given to us.

We rejoice that You have given everything and we joyfully give everything back to Your care. Amen.

CONGREGATIONAL PRAYER

We had a time of congregational prayer for the work of Abigail Housing, an organisation working to provide support and housing to refugees and asylum seekers within Leeds and Bradford.

BENEDICTION

May the Lord make you increase and abound in love for one another so that he may establish your hearts blameless in holiness before our God and Father, at the coming of our Lord Jesus with all his saints.

And also with you.
Amen.
