ROMANS - Recap

SERMON

This Sunday we’ll be back in our Romans sermon series and Gary Aston will be preaching to us from Romans 9:1-5 as we recap the series and think about God’s sovereignty.

LITURGY

CALL TO WORSHIP

Praise be to you, LORD, from everlasting to everlasting.

Yours, LORD, is the greatness, the power, the glory, the majesty and the splendour, for everything in heaven and earth is yours.

Yours, LORD, is the kingdom; you are exalted as head over all. Wealth and honour come from you; you are the ruler of all things.

In your hands are strength and power to exalt and give strength to all.

Now, our God, we give you thanks, and praise your glorious name.

(1 Chronicles 29:10-13)

 MUSIC

  • Jesus is the Lord of All (Olly Knight): A song of praise to our Saviour who reigns and rules over all.

  • The Lion and the Lamb (Bethel): A song of celebration of God as the Lion of Judah and the Lamb who was slain. A reminder that he is sovereign over all and every knee will one day bow before him.

BELONGING - Belonging to One Another

CALL TO WORSHIP

Oh come, let us sing to the LORD; let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation! Let us come into his presence with thanksgiving; let us make a joyful noise to him with songs of praise!

For the LORD is a great God, and a great King above all gods.

In his hand are the depths of the earth; the heights of the mountains are his also. The sea is his, for he made it, and his hands formed the dry land.

Oh come, let us worship and bow down; let us kneel before the LORD, our Maker! For he is our God, and we are the people of his pasture.

(Psalm 95:1-7)

Song: Behold our God

Song: How Great Thou Art

CONFESSION AND ASSURANCE

At this point in our gathering each week we have a time of confession. We do this because when we see God’s greatness and recognise his glory, we are faced with our own humanity and how short we fall of God’s requirements.

So a time for confession reminds us of our right place before God, it reminds us of our sinfulness, our need for God’s grace and forgiveness and also of God’s provision of this grace through Jesus.

As we've been in our belonging series, we've thought about what it means to belong to God together, how when we trust and follow Jesus we become part of his body, the church. So often though we fail to love the church as we should and treat one another as God asks us to. Take a moment to confess to God where you see that in yourself in the quiet of your own heart.

Let's ask for God's help in this...

Father God, help us to clothe ourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Help us to bear with each other and forgive one another as we have been forgiven in Jesus. Amen.

(Colossians 3:12-17)

Song: Shine into our Night

PASSING OF THE PEACE

PREACHING OF THE WORD

Tom Thrower preached to us from God’s word this week from Colossians 3:12-17. Click here to listen to that sermon.

COMMUNION

Every week we want to respond to what God has done for us in Jesus. One of the great ways he has provided for us to remember the truth of the gospel is giving us communion. As we take the bread and wine we remember what Jesus has done for us.

POST COMMUNION READING

Jesus’ death brings us life and this meal reminds us that we are fed by Jesus and forgiven because of Jesus.

We rejoice that You have died, rose again, and are now with the Father advocating for us. Amen.

With our money, time, and talent we give generously, knowing that through Your Son, Jesus, You have generously given to us.

We rejoice that You have given everything and we joyfully give everything back to Your care. Amen.

Song: Jesus Paid it All

Song: Look What God Has Done

TESTIMONIES & BAPTISMS

This Sunday we celebrated two baptisms as a church family. It was great to share with Joe and Livi as they told their stories of salvation and publicly affirmed Jesus as their Lord and Saviour.

Song: Revelation Song

BENEDICTION

Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. (Colossians 3:15)

Peace be with you.

And also with you.

ONE OFF - Conflict

CALL TO WORSHIP

Ascribe to the LORD, you heavenly beings, ascribe to the LORD glory and strength.

Ascribe to the LORD the glory due his name; worship the LORD in the splendour of his holiness.

The voice of the LORD is powerful; the voice of the LORD is majestic. The LORD rules and reigns as King forever.

The LORD gives strength to his people; the LORD blesses his people with peace.

(based on Psalm 29:1-2,4,10-11)

Song: All Praise to Him

Song: Look and See

CONFESSION AND ASSURANCE

When we're reminded of God's purity and majesty, we are humbled to see our place before him. We see how far we fall from his standards. When we see his love and mercy demonstrated to us, we are reminded that we fail to love one another and are slow to forgive each other. Let's pray these words together now, as a confession to God of this tendency in our hearts.

Heavenly Father, forgive us for mistreating one another, for being impatient with one another and seeking to divide your church rather than unite.

Help us to be kind to one another, forgiving each another just as you have forgiven us in Christ. Amen.

(based on Ephesians 4:32)

While we were still weak and in sin, Jesus died for us. Offering us an invite into relationship with God. Let's sing out in light of that truth together now.

Song: In Tenderness He Sought Me

PASSING OF THE PEACE

PREACHING OF THE WORD

Adam Flynt from the Church of the Eleven22 was with us this Sunday and preached to us on conflict within the church from various Bible passages. Listen to that sermon here:

Song: How Deep the Father’s Love

Song: In Christ Alone

COMMITMENT READING

Without Jesus, we would still know separation from God. We are only restored to God the father, through Christ the son. Let's encourage our hearts with this truth as we prepare to go now:

Because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions, it is by grace we have been saved.

(Ephesians 2:4-5)

The gift of grace, we've received in Christ and the love God has shown us is everlasting. Let's sing out together the truth of that now.

Song: Nothing in All the Earth

BENEDICTION

Brothers and sisters, continue to have unity of mind, loving one another just as Christ loves the church. Go in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

Peace be with you.

And also with you.
