HABITS OF GRACE - Feeding the Habits

CALL TO WORSHIP

Praise the LORD! Let us give thanks to the LORD with our whole heart, together as one body and voice, let us worship God!

Great are the works of the LORD. We remember and delight in the amazing things he has done!

He is full of splendour and majesty and his righteousness endures forever. The works of his hands are faithful and just; he sent redemption to his people; he has commanded his covenant forever.

Holy and awesome is his name! Praise be to the LORD!

(Based on Psalm 111)

Song: How Great Thou Art

Song: All Creatures of our God and King

CONFESSION AND ASSURANCE

As we've thought through habits of grace these past few weeks, the practices that help us to deepen our love and enjoyment of God, we are reminded that so often we fail. We desire to spend time with God and make him our priority, and yet so quickly we forget this and turn from him. We put our time and energy into other things, other relationships, rather than our relationship with him. Take a moment to confess that to God, to ask him to reveal this tendency in your own heart.

God tells us in his word that if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just. He will forgive our sins and we will no longer be condemned by them. Let's sing out, praising God that in Jesus, our sins are forgiven.

Song: You Alone Can Rescue

PASSING OF THE PEACE

PREACHING OF THE WORD

This week we finished our 'Habits of Grace' sermon series. Gary Aston preached to us from Psalm 119:9-16;97-104 on how to feed these habits in our lives. Click here to listen to that sermon.

COMMUNION

Every week we want to respond to what God has done for us in Jesus. One of the great ways he has provided for us to remember the truth of the gospel is giving us communion. As we take the bread and wine we remember what Jesus has done for us.

POST COMMUNION READING

Jesus’ death brings us life and this meal reminds us that we are fed by Jesus and forgiven because of Jesus.

We rejoice that You have died, rose again, and are now with the Father advocating for us. Amen.

With our money, time, and talent we give generously, knowing that through Your Son, Jesus, You have generously given to us.

We rejoice that You have given everything and we joyfully give everything back to Your care. Amen.

Song: Nothing but the Blood

Song: Saviour of the World

COMMITMENT READING

Heavenly father, help us to form and maintain habits that will allow us to enjoy more of the blessing that is ours, by grace, in Jesus.

Help us to meditate on your word and not stray from your commands. Would we delight to speak to you in prayer, knowing that through Jesus you hear us. And would we consider how to stir up one another to love and good works in the body of the church. Amen

Song: Be Thou My Vision

BENEDICTION

Brothers and Sisters, may you grow in the grace and knowledge and love of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Centering your lives on Christ. To him be the glory both now and to the day of eternity. Amen.

Peace be with you.

And also with you.

HABITS OF GRACE - The Church

CALL TO WORSHIP

But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God's own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvellous light.

Once we were not a people, but now we are God's people; once we had not received mercy, but now we have received mercy.

1 Peter 2:9-10

Song: Come Thou Fount

Song: Look What God Has Done

CONFESSION AND ASSURANCE

God tells us in his word time and time again that he has created a people for himself. As Christians we have the joy of being part of his people, the church, and yet so often don't experience this joy. We neglect one another, criticise one another and fail to see our need for the church. Let's take a moment to confess that to God together now:

Heavenly Father, forgive us for neglecting the church and for rejecting our identity as your people. Forgive us for seeing the church as a place to take from rather than a family to belong to. Help us to be patient with one another and love one another like you have loved us.

Help us to forgive one another, bear with one another and encourage one another as response to the forgiveness and grace you have shown to us in Christ. Amen.

Song: Made Alive

PASSING OF THE PEACE

PREACHING OF THE WORD

Song: Christ is Risen

COMMITMENT READING

Let us hold tightly, without wavering, to the hope we affirm, for God can be trusted to keep his promise.

Let us think of ways to stir up one another to acts of love and good works. And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of Christ's return is drawing near.

(Hebrews 10:23-25)

Song: O For A Thousand Tongues

BENEDICTION

Finally, brothers and sisters, rejoice! Strive for full restoration, encourage one another, be of one mind, live in peace. And the God of love and peace will be with you.

Peace be with you.

And also with you.
