This week Rowan Paterson will be joining us from Trinity West Church this week and preaching to us from Colossians 1:15-23.

Once you were alienated from God, enemies of his. But now he has reconciled you by Christ’s body through death to present you holy in his sight, without blemish and free from accusation if you continue in your faith, established and firm, and do not move from the hope held out in the gospel.

• Lead us Back (Sojourn): A song of confession that we so often seek security, comfort and the worship of other idols above God. A plea that God would lead us back to life in him. 

• Look What God Has Done (Ghost Ship):  A call for us to look again at what God has done for us in Jesus Christ. To remind our hearts of the identity we have in the Gospel and to give God all the glory.

He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. For by him all things were
created, in heaven and on earth, all things were created through him and for him.

He is before all things, and in him all things hold together. In him all the fullness of God was
pleased to dwell, and through him to reconcile all things to himself.

CONFESSION AND ASSURANCE

Merciful God, we confess that in our longing, we have worshipped the idols of this world instead of worshipping you, the one true God. We realise the sin in our own hearts and ask for your forgiveness and mercy. In your grace, would you direct our eyes back to you.

COMMUNION

Every week we want to respond to what God has done for us in Jesus. One of the great ways he has provided for us to remember the truth of the gospel is giving us communion. As we take the bread and wine we remember what Jesus has done for us.

POST COMMUNION READING

Jesus’ death brings us life and this meal reminds us that we are fed by Jesus and forgiven because of Jesus.

We rejoice that You have died, rose again, and are now with the Father advocating for us. Amen.

With our money, time, and talent we give generously, knowing that through Your Son, Jesus, You have generously given to us.

We rejoice that You have given everything and we joyfully give everything back to Your care. Amen.

COMMITMENT READING

If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at

EXODUS - No other Gods & No Graven Images

SERMON

As Exodus is a big book we won’t read all of the Bible text in our Sunday gathering. Each week we will give you the full section of Exodus here on the blog for you to read in your own time. This is a great way to prepare your heart to hear from God’s word on a Sunday. We'll be slowing down a little now and taking a week to look at each of the 10 commandments, apart from this week where we'll be looking at the first two from Exodus 20:1-6.

EXODUS - THE 10 COMMANDMENTS

CALL TO WORSHIP

The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands. Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they reveal knowledge.

The law of the Lord is perfect, refreshing the soul. The statutes of the Lord are trustworthy, making wise the simple. The precepts of the Lord are right, giving joy to the heart. The commands of the Lord are radiant, giving light to the eyes.

The fear of the Lord is pure, enduring for ever. The decrees of the Lord are firm, and all of them are righteous. They are more precious than gold, than much pure gold; they are sweeter than honey.

CONFESSION AND ASSURANCE

Father God, in a world filled with sin and darkness, we confess our own weakness, the sin in our own hearts, and our need for a Saviour.

Help us to see the seriousness of our sin, that it cost Jesus his life. In our confession, lead us to repentance and draw our eyes back to Christ.

Cause us to trust, rest in, and join with your Spirit’s reconciling and restoring work in our lives. Amen.
